Copper Thermal Conductivity

I calculated and plotted the thermal conductivity of copper between 200 and 800 K, comparing these results with data from two heat transfer textbook: “Thermal Conductivity of Selected Materials” by U.S. Department of Commerce (Table 4, Page 23), and “Introduction to Heat Transfer” by Bergman Lavine (Table A.1, Page 899).

As the Assembly Manager, sometimes I have to help the team to complete the tasks on time.

But the hard work extends beyond the machine parts, going from organization to knowledge.
My Industrial Engineering background helps to organize the team, and my Electrical and Mechanical Engineering helps to understand and explain what we are doing.

5 S strategy

5 S is a workplace organization method based on five Japanese words:

seiri (整理), Sort, SELEKTIEREN, Seleccionar
is sorting through all items in a location and removing all unnecessary items from the location.

Reduce time loss looking for an item by reducing the amount of items.
Reduce the chance of distraction by unnecessary items.
    Simplify inspection.
Increase the amount of available, useful space.
    Increase safety by eliminating obstacles.

seiton (整頓), Set In order, SORTIEREN, Ordenar
is putting all necessary items in the optimal place for fulfilling their function in the workplace.
Make the workflow smooth and easy.

seisō (清掃), Shine, SÄUBERN, Limpiar
is sweeping or cleaning and inspecting the workplace, tools and machinery on a regular basis.

    Prevent deterioration.
Keep the workplace safe and easy to work in.
Keep the workplace clean and pleasing to work in.
When in place, anyone not familiar to the environment must be able to detect any problems within 50 feet in 5 sec.

seiketsu (清潔), Standardize, STANDARDISIEREN, Normalizar
is to standardize the processes used to sort, order and clean the workplace.
Establish procedures and schedules to ensure the repetition of the first three ‘S’ practices.

shitsuke (躾), Sustain, SICHERN UND VERBESSERN, Mantener
sustain the developed processes by self-discipline of the workers. Also translates as “do without being told”.
Ensure that the 5S approach is followed

Inventory System Design

30 June, 2018 No comments

In my daily work with the inventory, I realized that a simple and practical solution could be proposed.

So, I designed an Inventory System as a proof of concept of how things could be.

After finding somebody able to deal with web technologies, we created a system with the following features:

  • Multi-wharehouse
  • Simple to use
  • Validated inputs
  • Web based, multiple users
  • Automatic language selection based on browser configurtion
  • Includes bill of materials, production planning, current status, and order generation.
  • Most data parts can be printed as .pdf, or exported as .csv

3D Modeling

I created this 3D factory model to calculate illumination. The software is DIAlux EVO.

As the results have to be similar to reality, every aspect of the workplace was included.

This made the whole project a challenge, though the results were as expected.
